UPDATE JULY 20, 2012 @ 12PM PST – Movie night has been cancelled due to inclement weather, a bad mood, and an unexpected infestation by Townsend’s Big-eared Bats. They are soooooo cute but watch out! They have rabies.

Friday the 20th, assembling at our fireside at 9PM with film to roll promptly at 9:30. The runtime on this puppy is 115 minutes, so that should see the movie ending right around 11:30.

If you feel like coming, please be sure to review the Movie Night Rules page!

In the spirit of full disclosure, here are a few of the negative reviews to dissuade the faint of heart:

This new “Jane Eyre” is as straight and heavy as a fireplace poker…
The acting and writing (by Moira Buffini) are fine throughout, but director Cary Joji Fukunaga (“Sin Nombre”) buries everything under gray stone and dark tapestry, as if aiming to please the ghost of Alistair Cooke.
    Rafer Guzman, Newsday

    And another:

…this latest adaptation of the Charlotte Brontë novel is careful, respectful and even enjoyable, and yet dry, singularly humorless and played without the lavishness of spirit that makes sense of Gothic melodrama… The Gothic suggests the hugeness of life being squashed, compressed and corseted into something too small, and so we wait and look for signs of the ultimate explosion. Yet without that suggestion, that underlying enormousness, we’re left with the miniature and melancholic, with incidents in the life of young, perceptive girl who just can’t seem to catch a break.
    Mick LaSalle

With that sad duty performed, I will state that I have seen this movie once before and thought it was !@#$ing awesome. So come watch it with me.
