Way Too Hot
I don’t think I’ve ever seen this in a special weather statement before:
ALTHOUGH IT WILL BE VERY TEMPTING TO JUMP INTO AREA LAKES AND RIVERS TO COOL OFF…IT WOULD NOT BE A WISE IDEA. WATER TEMPERATURES WERE STILL QUITE COLD OR IN THE 30S AND 40S. ALSO… RIVERS WERE RUNNING HIGH AND SWIFT DUE TO SPRING SNOW MELT. THUS JUMPING INTO AN AREA LAKE OR RIVER COULD LEAD TO DEATH BY HYPOTHERMIA OR DROWNING AS MUSCLES CRAMP UP FROM THE COLD.

At the risk of being a Debbie Downer (waw, waaaaa) I’m remembering that people headed to the water last year during spring time heat spells with cautastrophic results. According to the newsies, about a half dozen died from drowning during only May/June ‘07 in King County. I recall there were many river deaths (not too many rivers in King County) where tubers and canoists got caught up in fast rapids and debris piles on what normally are mild flowing rivers.
But I’m old and my memory is not so good. Maybe I was watching too much Bay Watch.
